Calendars Net Merging Server Address of Your CalendarYou can access your calendar at:
European and Asian-Pacific Time Zones AvailableWe now have servers set to Central Europe Time (GMT +1) and servers set to Western Australian Standard Time (GMT + 8), which is also the time for China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and The Philippines. Previously, all servers had been set to a USA time zone. The result for users in the Pacific, Asia, and Europe was that "Today" on the calendar would not change when local time passed midnight but instead would change when midnight passed in the USA, some hours later. Here are the new links, where "nameofcalendar" is indeed the name of your calendar:
Yes, we know that the UK is one hour earlier than GMT +1 time. And Indonesia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Thailand, and Vietnam are not on GMT +8 time. But they are all off by only one hour, except that India is off (earlier) by 2.5 hours and New Zealand is off (later) by 4 hours. So using those prefixes will still provide a more accurate portrayal of "today" for users in those nations that will the "www" prefix. You do not have to do anything at all to your calendar in order to use these new servers. They access the same data file that is accessed by all of the other servers. Calendar File Upload and DownloadWhen we set up your merging server, we provided you with the information necessary for you to have direct FTP acess to your calendar files. Please review that email. Data ImportingIf you create .txt or .csv files on your own computer (in the proper format), you can upload them for importing into any of your calendars by using the FTP access provided in the email we sent when we created your merging server. To import the data into a calendar:
Moving Graphic Images You Have UploadedIf you have uploaded graphic images to Calendars Net for use in your calendar on the free server, those files are not automatically available to your calendars on your Merging Premium Server. There are two methods to deal with this:
Note: If you upload to your Merging Server's directory an image file to use as the Page Background, you need to insert the filename into the Page Background box on the Colors menu in a slightly different way: directoryname/imagename.gif. In other words, you must specify both your Merging Server's directory name and the image filename. Using Add-In FilesYou can use the standard add-in files (.idt files) provided by Calendars Net with the Add-Ins submenu on the Settings menu. You can also upload and display your own add-in files, which will then be available only for your calendars. Upload an add-in file by using the same FTP system as for your calendar files. Then manually edit each calendar where the events in the add-in file should appear. To edit the calendar, use your FTP access to download it (using either an FTP client or a web browser) and then edit it with an ASCII text editor, such as Windows Notepad. Search for the line starting with [Addins]. Then add your subdirectory name to the beginning of the path for each add-in file. For example, the following lines in the calendar file will cause the calendar to display the U.S. Holidays and a "trips.idt" file uploaded by the administrator of the merging server names "goodforbusiness".
Calendar File BackupsAt night we make 6 vintages of backups of the Merging Server calendar files. The backup intervals are 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, 7 days, and 30 days. So, at all times we will have a backup version of your calendar file that is less than 1 day old, one that is less then 2 days old, one that is less than 3 days old, one that is less than 4 days old, one that is less than 7 days old, and one that is less than 30 days old. So if you make a mistake and somehow overwrite or otherwise mess up your calendar file, you can restore any of these 6 backups of your file. We will tell you how to do that, if you send email to Calendars Net Support: Merging Calendar Restoral from the same email address you used when you ordered your Merging Server. Making Your Calendar Appear to be Located on Your Own Web SiteWhen someone clicks on a link on your web site to access a calendar on your Calendars Net Merging Server, the web address that appears in the browser's Address bar (Internet Explorer) or Location bar (Netscape) is a Calendars Net URL, such as http://our.calendars.net/directory/nameofcalendar. Here are two ways you can make the web address stay on your own web site. Create a Domain AliasThis requires that you know how to use a DNS server to create a domain alias or that you have a webmaster who will do it for you. Go to the primary DNS server for your web address. That is the server that translates your domain name into a numerical IP address. Create a new alias name (also known as a CNAME) for a prefix "cal" (or whatever prefix you might want). For example, if your domain name is mydomainname.com, then you will be creating a new alias name for cal.mydomainname.com. Set the target host to our.calendars.net. Then, when anyone who tells the browser to go to cal.mydomainname.com/directory/nameofcalendar will actually go to our.calendars.net/directory/nameofcalendar, but the Address or Location bar in the browser will show cal.mydomainname.com/directory/nameofcalendar. This is the better of the two methods, because it does not tie your cal.mydomainname.com name to any particular IP address. Create an "A" RecordThis is an entirely different method, far inferior to the domain alias method described above. This requires that you know how to use a DNS server to create an "A" record or that you have a webmaster who will do it for you. Go to the primary DNS server for your web address. That is the server that translates your domain name into a numerical IP address. Create a new "A" record for a prefix "cal" (or whatever else you might want). Set the IP address for the prefix "cal" to 207.202.158.34.
Let's assume that your web site is www.mywebsite.com. Change the calendar link on your web site to http://cal.mywebsite.com/directory/nameofcalendar. Clicking on that link will bring up your calendar, with a web address on your own site, not on Calendars Net. This is by far the worse of the two methods, and we strongly discourage you from using it. If Calendars Net ever changes bandwidth providers, we will have to change our IP addresses, which will break your links to your calendar.
